Muridke woman drugged, tortured, and gang-raped for days appeals for justice
A 20-year-old gang-rape survivor during a press conference on Thursday, January 14, appealed to Prime Minister Imran Khan and Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar to exact justice against her tormentors. The woman threatened to commit suicide via self-immolation if her assailants are not punished.
She related that two armed men broke into her beauty salon at the Siraj Bus Stop on Muridke Road on November 21, 2019, and forced her into their car at gunpoint. She was given a laced drink which rendered her unconscious, and was tied up in an abandoned building in some unknown location. Upon regaining consciousness, her two abductors were joined by three other men, and would often talk with someone on their phone for orders.
The rape survivor stated that her captors would inject her with drugs that rendered her partially unconscious and would then brutally rape her. One of the assailants would also slash her with a blade. After three days of constant torture, the suspects then drugged and abandoned her at Muridke Chowk. The woman returned to her home village of Sadhwan and registered a case at Nadoke police station, but no arrests have been made despite the passage of nearly two months.
The woman accuses the police of colluding with the influential suspects, claiming that the investigating officer offered her Rs. 200,000 if she withdrew her case against her assailants. The mother of the rape survivor has stated that the accused are sending her family death threats, while the woman’s cousin related that the suspects are threatening to release videos of the rape on social media if they pursued a case against them.
