Dua Zehra sent to shelter home
The Sindh High Court on Monday ordered an ossification test to determine Dua Zehra’s age. The investigating officer in the case was ordered to complete this medical examination within two days.
Meanwhile, the court directed that the girl be shifted to a shelter home till June 8, as she had refused to go back with her parents, who were present during the hearing but were prevented from meeting her by the police contingent escorting her.
Dua Zehra told the bench that she was around 18 years old and expressed her wish to remain with her alleged husband, Zaheer Ahmed. She refuted claims by her parents that she had been abducted, and accused her father of registering a false case against Ahmed.
However, per the birth certificate and passport copies submitted by her father Mehdi Kazmi through his counsel, his daughter was barely 14 and therefore a minor.
Alleged thief lynched by mob in Karachi
An incensed mob lynched an alleged thief and seriously injured his accomplice in Karachi’s Korangi area on Monday.
According to police, two motorcyclists were mugging a citizen when a car came up from behind and ran them over. While the driver of the car managed to speed away, passersby gathered at the scene and began thrashing the alleged robbers. They were surrendered to police responding to the incident, and were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC) where Haseeb, 24, was pronounced dead.
Alleged bandit killed by mob
In Gujranwala last week, a man was similarly beaten to death by an enraged mob over allegations of stealing a bike. According to the victim’s brother, they had run out of fuel, prompting his sibling to tug his bike to the nearest petrol station. The victim, a scrap dealer by profession, was mistaken for a bike snatcher and tortured to death by ten to 15 people.
Youth murdered for ‘honour’ in Hyderabad
The father of a 22-year-old youth has appealed to the Sindh police chief to order an inquiry into his son’s murder by two individuals, identified as Mahrab Bozdar and Nawab Bozdar, in a karo-kari case.
According to the complaint, Sher Mohammad Bozdar was murdered while he was watering his fields in Goth Raees Bozdar.
While an investigation has been launched, no arrests have been made as of yet.
