Hafizabad bar gets first female president
In a nail-biting contest, Khalida Shahid has defeated her rival candidate Rae Waqar by three votes to become the first ever woman president of the Hafizabad District Bar Association.
She got 504 votes against her rival’s 501 votes in the polling held on January 8. She had contested for the bar’s president slot two years ago but had lost the election. Khalida Shahid also head the district chapter of the Pakistan Peoples Party.
Shortage of beds for children in KP hospitals
Hospitals in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are facing shortage of beds in paedatric wards where hundreds of children were coming for treatment of flue, pneumonia and tuberculosis due to severe cold weather.
According to health officials, around 1,500 children daily were coming to Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar for treatment while the Hayatabad Medical Complex was receiving over 100 children with such diseases. Doctors said they had run out of beds for admitting children with severe complications, adding that two to three children were admitted on a single bed in these hospitals.
Worker killed in Kohat mine collapse
A miner was killed and others injured when a coalmine collapsed at Darra Adamkhel in Kohat.
According to rescue officials, the coalmine collapsed due to rain and four miners were buried under the rubble. One of them succumbed to his injuries while the rest were shifted to a local hospital for treatment.
