Woman Kills Husband For Abuse
A Faisalabad woman was arrested on Wednesday, May 13, for slitting her husband’s throat and then dumping his body in some bushes with the aid of four yet unknown male accomplices. According to the deceased’s younger brother, the victim Hassan and his wife, Tahira Bibi, would argue regularly over trivial matters. He suspected that Tahira had carried out the crime due to the regular domestic abuse she suffered at the hands of her husband.
Violence On The Rise
Yet another incident of target killing in Miramshah indicates a worrying upward trend in violence in North Waziristan’s tribal regions. On Wednesday, May 13, unknown persons gunned down one Mohammad Ayaz outside a car showroom, before firing a few rounds in the air and then fleeing.
In a separate incident, a landmine blast killed a minor boy and critically injured his father as they were riding their motorcycle in the Shurparod area of Union Council Dasht Goran, around 60 kilometers away from Kalat in Balochistan. The two were shifted to the Kalat District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital where the boy was pronounced dead on arrival. The surviving father has been taken to Quetta for treatment.
SC Stays PHC Order
The Supreme Court blocked the Peshawar High Court’s orders to hear bail pleas of around 300 suspected militants convicted by a military court on Wednesday, May 13.
A day prior, the Peshawar High Court had adjourned a hearing on 300 petitions against military court convictions, stating that the government should produce case reports immediately as justice cannot be further delayed in these cases. Should the government fail to do so, the court would be to hear bail petitions for some of the convicts. The hearing was adjourned upon the request of the government to allow for more time to procure the case reports as the relevant offices were closed due to the pandemic situation.
On Wednesday, Attorney General Khalid Javed, representing the Ministry of Defense, moved the Supreme Court to block the Peshawar High Court’s interim orders, stating that should the high court give bails, it would be “an irreparable loss”.
