Two-year-old found dead in open manhole triggers protests in Bahawalnagar
A missing two-year-old boy was found dead in an open manhole in Model Town, Bahawalnagar. The family reported that Habib had gone missing on Tuesday night and was found dead in the manhole on the same street the next day. Residents claim that the sewerage work in the area had been delayed for the last eight months, leaving several manholes, including the one where Habib fell, uncovered for a long time.
The Bahawalnagar Municipal Committee officials were accused of ignoring complaints about the uncovered manholes. The MC Chief Officer stated that the public health department was responsible for covering manholes in under-construction areas.
However, the MC was not informed about the construction work in Model Town, leaving them in the dark. The incident triggered protests from the victim’s family and residents of the area, and some manholes were repaired and covered properly by the MC after the tragedy.
Youth Sent to Jail for Allegedly Raping Mentally Challenged Woman in Mosque Washroom
A young man has been sent to jail after allegedly raping a mentally unstable woman in a mosque washroom in Mandi Sadiq Ganj.
He was caught by people who heard the woman’s screams while they were offering prayers. The suspect was beaten by a mob before the police arrived at the scene and rescued him.
The police have registered a case against the suspect based on a citizen’s complaint and he has been sent to jail.
Child Abuse Suspect Sentenced to Five Years in Prison
The individual charged with the offense of child abuse has been given a five-year prison sentence and a fine of two lakh rupees by the court of Sessions Judge Saryab Jan Muhammad Gohar in Quetta. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional six months of imprisonment for the defendant.
As per the prosecution’s account, Agha Muhammad, the accused, attempted to sexually abuse a child within the jurisdiction of Abdul Khaliq Shaheed police station in 2021. Upon receiving a complaint from the father, the police arrested the accused, and a challan was filed against him in court. The case was investigated by SI Amjad Mehmood.
