Police in Muzaffargarh on Monday, January 9, arrested five suspects, who had chopped off the nose of a young man on suspicion of an affair with a woman from their family two days earlier.

According to the first information report lodged with the Khairpur Sadat police station, the suspects-Falak Sher, Kaleemullah, Yusuf, Muhammad Salim, and Sikandar kidnapped Asif Magsi from his farm in Alipur on January 7. The suspects tortured him before cutting off his nose with a knife. The victim was later shifted to a local hospital for treatment. The victim’s family members also held a protest over the gruesome mutilation and torture.

Following the public outcry over the incident, Regional Police Officer (RPO) Syed Khurram Ali instructed the district police to immediately arrest the nominated accused in the case.
 A special team was formed to arrest the accused under the supervision of the District Police Officer (DPO).  A special police team arrested all the accused within 24 hours of the case being lodged, on Sunday. The accused were charged with offenses under Section 336, Section 148, and Section 149 of the Pakistan Penal Code. The DPO said the police would present a challan to the court with solid evidence against the accused so that they could be punished for the crime.
