Another policeman wounded in TLP riots dies

Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Mohammad Abu Bakar, who was severely injured in violent clashes with the currently proscribed Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) at Sadhoke, died while under treatment at the critical care unit of the Lahore General Hospital on Monday, November 1. The confirmed number of deaths among the Punjab Police now stands at five.

ASI Mohammad Abu Bakar hailed from the Jhang district and was serving as a personal staff officer (PSO) to the Iqbal Town SP in Lahore. Police claimed that the riots were most violent at Sadhoke, where videos have emerged of alleged TLP activists opening fire on police and paramilitary personnel.

A total of 520 policemen were injured in the riots in Lahore and at two security points on the GT Road prior to Gujranwala, according to official figures. Of these, 17 suffered critical head and chest wounds of whom two later died while under treatment at local hospitals. Moreover, four of the 17 injured police officials suffered bullet wounds per reports from various public hospitals.

Two killed, four injured in boiler explosion

Two workers were killed while four were critically injured in a blast at a Soofi Rice Mills factory on Bhakkar Road in Jhang, Faisalabad division, on Monday.

According to Rescue 1122, factory employees were doing a test run of the newly installed boiler when it exploded, killing Mohsin Umer and Naseer Ahmed and caving in the roof of the building. The injured have been shifted to the Jhang district headquarters (DHQ) hospital

70% of drinking water in Muzaffarabad contaminated

A study conducted by the Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources found that over 70 percent of sources for drinking water in Muzaffarabad, mostly natural springs, were contaminated.

Azad Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Local Government and Rural Development Khawaja Farooq Ahmad stated that the issue had exacerbated following the 2005 earthquake, and that since then governments took various steps to ensure access to clean and safe drinking water to citizens. 

He directed officials to ensure maintenance and upgrade of filtration plants. He further said that the government is planning on releasing funds to secure access to drinkable water for all income groups.
