3-month relief for prisoners on account of Eid Milad-un-Nabi
Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed on Monday, October 18, announced a three-month reduction to jail terms for prisoners on account of Eid Milad-un-Nabi during a media brief in Islamabad. He further clarified that the Ministry of Interior will issue a notification in this regard following the approval of Prime Minister Imran Khan, and that the relief will not be extended to those convicted of heinous crimes.
Bannu polio workers awarded certificates
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bannu Mohammad Zubair on Monday handed out appreciation certifications to polio officials and healthcare workers for their exemplar performance during the government’s polio immunization campaign. During the ceremony, the DC highlighted that no new polio case was reported in the district in the last nine months, and announced that a five-day anti-polio drive will formally commence on October 21.
Migrant workers in Kashmir evacuated
Indian authorities have evacuated thousands of migrant workers in disputed Kashmir territory to safe locations while hundreds fled following a series of targeted killings in the valley. Eleven civilians, including five migrant workers, have been murdered in wake of clashes between armed militants and occupying Indian forces. The decision to relocate workers after two migrant labourers from Bihar were gunned down while another was injured in an ambush in their rented apartment in the Kulgam district on Sunday, October 17.
