Child Domestic Worker Tortured
The Punjab Child Protection and Welfare Bureau (CPWB) recovered 8 year old Sana from her abusive employers in Lahore after receiving a tipoff on their 1121 helpline. The girl had been employed as a domestic worker for the past seven months in the home of one Hammad Raza in Wapda Town for a monthly wage of Rs. 5,000. Sana claimed that she had been recently beaten and starved for five straight days for allegedly stealing milk from her employer’s home.
The girl bore various torture marks. According to the girl, she had been burned with scalding water, beaten with sticks under her limbs became swollen and had hot knives pressed against her hands and stomach. An FIR will be lodged after the child is presented in court and a medico-legal examination ordered.
Woman Shot Dead by Husband
Abida Bibi (30) of Maharwali on the outskirts of Bahawalnagar was shot dead by her husband in their home on Thursday, July 9. On the day of the incident, the mother of five had an argument with her husband, Saleem, over a yet-unknown domestic issue. Saleem then locked the woman in a room and subjected her to torture before gunning her down.
According to the deceased’s brother, Muhammad Yaseen, Saleem and Abida had gotten married 12 years ago but often quarreled as Saleem distrusted his wife and would often raise doubts as to her modesty.
Two Killed for Honour in Peshawar
Peshawar police are set to exhume the remains of Samina (16) and Waqas Khairuddin (21), who had been gunned down and then buried without last rites. The location of their bodies was confirmed after drawing confessions from suspects Nooruddin, Saleh Mohammad and Shahabuddin for carrying out the honour killing on July 2.
Missing Person Found Dead in Jail
Pir Bux Khaskheli (50) of Sanghar, Sindh, was found dead in his cell after being picked up by police for his alleged involvement in a murder on June 7. Pir Bux’s name was not nominated in the FIR.
Police state that the victim had committed suicide by hanging in his cell, however, the deceased’s family alleges Pir Bux had been tortured to death in a fake case. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death and whether or not he was tortured.
