Suspect in Korangi minor’s rape, murder on 5-day remand

An anti-terrorism court administrative judge on Tuesday, August 3, remanded one Zakir “Antola” in the custody of the police for five days in the case of the rape and murder of a six-year-old girl in Karachi’s Korangi on July 27.

The IO told the court that the suspect, the victim’s neighbour, had confessed to sexually assaulting and killing the girl during interrogation and that his DNA matched the sample retrieved from the victim’s body. The IO requested the judge for a two-week remand to complete the investigation however the judge permitted five-day custody.

According to the victim’s father, Abdul Khalid, his three daughters were out playing during a power breakdown at around 9 PM on July 27. Two of them returned two hours later while the third remained missing despite a fervent search by family and neighbours throughout the night. In the morning, the family were alerted to a child’s corpse found in a garbage heap near a school boundary wall, which was identified as the victim.

Khalid further added that the suspect had two daughters, one of whom was a friend of the deceased girl.

Man murders daughter for ‘honour’ in Thatta

One Hamza Lakho along with three accomplices tortured his daughter to death on Monday, August 2.

According to the woman’s husband, the victim was kicked out of her home for marrying of her choice. Two months later however she received a call from her father who asked to meet her. The investigating officer (IO) stated that the prime suspect and three others assaulted the victim and then threw her body into a lake Monday night.

A case was registered against the four accused while Lakho has been arrested.

Woman’s corpse found in gunny bag in Islamabad

The body of a woman was found in a gunny sack on the roadside in Islamabad’s F-11 Monday morning.

While the deceased has yet to be identified, police have estimated she was between 25 and 30 years of age and that the body appeared to be around three to four days old. Police also stated that torture marks were visible on her face and other parts of her body.

A case has been registered at the Golra Sharif police station.
