Bahawalnagar woman claims police aiding her rapist
A mother of two children along with villagers of Chak 11 Fordwah on Sunday, March 28, staged a protest against Bakhshan Khan police for consorting with her alleged rapist, an influential landlord in the area, and tossing out her complaint despite a medical examination proving she had been sexually assaulted.
According to the woman, she had been residing with her children alone in a house in the village after her husband divorced her. On the night of December 21, 2020, the accused trespassed into her home and raped her at gunpoint. Hearing her screams, villagers gathered outside her home however the accused managed to escape by brandishing his weapon. The villagers alerted Bakhshan police but were told to file the complaint in the morning.
The rape survivor however claimed that the police turned her away from the station for trying to register a fake case against the accused, and refused to conduct a medical examination despite her repeated insistence. Following a writ to the court, the police finally registered a case against the landlord on January 12, 2021. However, Bakhshan police once again failed to record her statement and on January 29 disposed of the case as it was based on a ‘false allegation’, despite the medico-legal report confirming the woman had been raped.
The rape survivor further alleged that the accused and his accomplices beat her and doused her with petrol in an attempt to set her on fire, however she was saved by the villagers. The accused, she stated, is now trying to drive her out of the village with threats.
Police however claim that the Punjab Forensic Science Agency requires swabs in rape cases however in this particular incident no samples could be collected due to the 22-day long delay the medical examination, insisting that the rape survivor was responsible for this delay. An IO ASI added that the matter actually concerned a dispute between two women.
A Bakhshan Khan Sub-Inspector however stated that complainant falsely accused the landlord of rape as the two were disputing over the ownership of a small house. They also termed the near-burning incident false as well, claiming that it had been a scuffle between the two parties in which both sides suffered minor injuries.
Man booked for blackmailing, raping brother-in-law’s wife
Dunyapur City police on Sunday, March 28, booked one Muhammad Yusuf for allegedly blackmailing, extorting, torturing and torturing his sister-in-law over the course of several weeks in Lodhran. According to the complainant, the accused is the brother-in-law of her husband, who currently resides in the UAE. Yusuf, a resident of Gujranwala, often visited her home.
The accused had reportedly planted a hidden camera in the complainant’s bathroom and recorded her taking a shower. He then began blackmailing her with the video and extorted Rs. 100,000 and four tolas in gold in return for deleting the video, however Yusuf continued to demand more cash and jewelry. At one point, the accused allegedly lured the woman to Dubai on the pretext of arranging a meeting with her husband at a hotel, however he proceeded to rape her and make a video of the assault. Upon returning to Pakistan, Yusuf threatened to send the video to her husband if she dared to speak to anyone about the incident.
The complainant claimed that two weeks ago, the accused began demanding to sleep with him again. When she refused, Yusuf along with his accomplices abducted her, tied her up and proceeded to repeatedly rape and torture her. The group had also filmed the entire ordeal, and later dumped the unconscious rape survivor on Quetta Road where she was spotted by locals who alerted the police.
No arrests have been made so far.
Layyah man kills wife for not gifting car in dowry
One Azam, a resident of Chowk Azam in Layyah, Punjab, strangled his wife whom he had married barely a month ago after her family refused his family’s demands for a car in dowry on Saturday, March 27. A case has been registered although the suspect has managed to evade police. Meanwhile, the deceased’s body has been shifted to a hospital for an autopsy.
