Bajaur primary students protest lack of teachers
Around 350 students from seven villages in the Kausar area of Khar tehsil, Bajaur, staged a protest over the absence of any teachers at the Government Primary School on Tuesday.
According to the students and their parents, there were only two teachers employed at the school to teach grades one to five, but they were transferred some time ago. Although numerous resumes of aspiring applicants had been submitted to the District Education Office (DEO) by the parent-teachers council, the vacancies have yet to be filled.
Students were joined by the parents at the protest, who brought out chairs and tables from the school and set them up outside, blocking traffic. Parents said that their children’s education was suffering as a result of this mismanagement, and to catch up, some of the senior students would substitute class in absence of teachers.
The DEO has stated that two teachers have been appointed and will start taking classes soon.
