Karachi Police has charged Azhar Ali, who had married Arzoo Fatima after alleged forced conversion, with rape while charging six others with facilitating a child marriage. Police investigators exonerated two brothers and a friend of Azhar’s as three suspects on bail and three others are absconding in the case.

Underage bride sent to shelter home

The Sindh High Court has sent another underage girl, who had married by her own accord, to a shelter home in Karachi as the age of marriage is 18 years in the province. The girl had approached the court for protection from family but a medical board said the age of the girl was 16 years. The court directed the police to investigate the matter.

Suspect found hanged in Gujrat lock-up

A judicial inquiry has been ordered after a suspect was found dead in a lock-up’s washroom in Gujrat’s Sara-i-Alamgir police station. Police claimed Muhammad Boota, accused in a theft case, had hanged himself with the string of his shalwar in the washroom.
