ICUs full amidst the second wave
Intensive care units in hospitals across the country are reaching full capacity as the second wave of the virus continues to spread at a rapid pace. Around 95 percent of the beds are occupied and hospitals are refusing to take more COVID patients.
181 staffers at PIMS test positive
Executive Director of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims), Dr Minhaj reported that nearly 181 staff members have tested positive for COVID over two weeks. This has caused a shortage of task force due to which more wards to treat coronavirus patients can not be opened at the moment.
Stay home during the holidays: WHO
The World Health Organisation suggested delaying or limiting mass gatherings during the upcoming holiday season as many countries experience a resurgence of positive cases. The safest option is for everyone to remain at home as with every excursion the chance of spreading the virus increases, the WHO advised.
Over 3000 cases for a second straight day
In the last 24 hours, 3,306 positive cases were recorded across the country for the consecutive day. There were 720 cases in Punjab, 1,348 cases in Sindh, 514 cases in KP, 51 cases in Balochistan and 87 cases in AJK.
