292 unlisted deaths added to Punjab tally
On November 20, Punjab’s COVID death toll jumped to 2,811 with the addition of 292 deaths that an audit report found had not been reported in the province. Out of the unreported deaths, 145 fatalities occurred in Lahore, 42 in Rawalpindi, and 29 in Multan. The audit report claims lapse occurred to the delay in receiving patients’ data.
4 Karachi districts in smart lockdown
The administration in Karachi has imposed smart lockdown in four districts and micro lockdown in the other two districts due to an alarming increase in COVID cases. Officials told Karachi Commissioner Iftikhar Ali Shallwani in a meeting that smart lockdown would be placed in districts East, West, Central, and South while districts Korangi and Malir would be under a micro lockdown.
46 schools shut in twin cities
Authorities in Rawalpindi and Islamabad have closed down 46 educational institutions after staff and students tested positive for COVID there. The administration sealed 38 educational institutions in Rawalpindi and eight in Islamabad to control the spread of COVID in students and faculty
Hyderabad top hotspot
Hyderabad is fast becoming a COVID hotspot as the city’s positivity ratio and mortality rate continues to increase in the city. Prof Dr. Imran Ali Shaikh of LUMHS said Hyderabad’s positivity ratio approaching the danger zone of 12 to 13 percent.
