Karachi man kills wife for honour

On Thursday, October 22, a man gunned down his wife, Sadia Bano, in a case of honour killing in Karachi;’s Orangi Town. The Pakistan Bazaar police stated that the body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for the required postmortem examination According to the police, the accused managed to flee after committing the heinous act, and a case has been filed against him.

Economist’s lecture cancelled over threats

On Thursday, The Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Karachi announced via Twitter the cancellation of a virtual seminar to be conducted by the renowned economist Dr. Atif Mian amid threats from extremists. Dr. Mian was a topic of discussion in 2018 when he was appointed to the Economic Advisory Council (EAC). However, less than a month later, the PTI government had to replace him due to increasing pressure from the religious groups who were demanding his dismissal on the basis of his Ahmadiyya faith.

Dr. Mian has achieved commendable success by serving as the professor of economics at Princeton University and being ranked amongst the ‘top 25 brightest young economists’ by the International Monetary Fund. Accordingly, many people displayed their dismay over the unfortunate cancellation.

NGO workers kidnapped at gunpoint

In the Makeen area of South Waziristan on Thursday, District Police Officer (DPO) Shaukat Ali confirmed the kidnapping of Taimoor and Shafiullah, employees of the Sarhad Rural Support Programme which is an institution funded by the government. The workers were returning to Mateen after overseeing a water provision scheme in Qalandar Kallay when their vehicle was made to halt at gunpoint by two unknown men, one of whom was from the Mahsud tribe while the other was affiliated with the Gandapur tribe. An FIR has been lodged against the kidnappers and a search operation has also been initiated.
