
Lahore Lockdown Extended
Lahore district administration decides to extend the smart lockdown in seven hotspots identified in the initial June 15 lockdown order. Walled City, Gulberg, Cantt, Shahdra, Mazang, Shadbagh, Allama Iqbal Town, Harbanspura, and Nishtar Town to remain sealed until July 15. Transport to resume as before and grocery shops and pharmacies allowed to remain open from 8 AM to 7 PM.
Contact Tracing Impeded
Virus clusters are becoming increasingly difficult to identify through contact tracing as people avoid swabs to prevent lockdown in their locale. According to the health department, smart lockdowns can only be imposed in union councils and villages if more than 500 COVID-19 patients emerge from the area.
Recovered Children Suffering From New Disease
Children Hospital Lahore received three children suffering from a yet-unknown post-coronavirus infection similar to Kawasaki Disease, in which children under 5 years of age suffer from a sustained fever, and the swelling of hands, feet, and genitals due to inflamed blood vessels. Similar cases have been reported in Sindh and Rawalpindi, prompting health experts to issue warnings of another health emergency.
Sindh Case Positivity Increases
Sindh’s case positivity ratio hits an all-time high of 28%, with 2,655 new cases detected from 9,435 samples taken on Tuesday, June 30. Experts urge provincial governments to increase testing and cast a wider sampling net to ascertain the actual extent of the contagion’s spread.
