ISLAMABAD
A serving police official, Farrukh Munir, who is accused to have assaulted his elderly mother and brother over a misplaced key in the Jhanda Chichi area of Rawalpindi, remains at large two days after a case was registered against him.
The First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged at the Civil Lines Police Station in Rawalpindi. The suspect has gone into hiding to avoid arrest and has simultaneously approached a local court for interim bail.
Investigating Officer’s statement
Speaking to Voicepk, the Investigating Officer (IO) of the case, ASI Abdul Mansoor from Civil Lines Police Station, Rawalpindi, co formed the case registration.
“A case has been registered against the accused, and we raided his home to arrest him, but he has absconded and is not at home.”
When asked about the suspect’s specific designation in the police department and his prior record, the IO mentioned that the police are currently looking into the matter.
“We are examining whether the suspect is indeed a police employee and if there are other cases against him, but I am currently more occupied with other cases.”
When questioned further about how the police plan to arrest the suspect—given that the elderly mother has expressed a severe threat to her life while the IO states he is busy with other matters—ASI Abdul Mansoor responded:
“No, it’s not like that. He has absconded and is simply not at home.”
Police cite caution and reason for delay
Regarding the slow pace and delay in police action, another Rawalpindi police official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, explained that the situation is being evaluated from both legal and familial perspectives.
“First, the accused has filed an application in court, and second, this is a domestic matter between a mother and her sons. Therefore, the police are proceeding cautiously with their action and investigation.”
Incidents and FIR contents
According to the FIR registered with the police, the complainant, Shamshad Begum, stated that she has three sons, two of whom (Farrukh Munir and Kashif Munir) reside with her in the same house. The accused, Farrukh Munir, is a police employee who arrived home and demanded keys from his mother. Upon being told that the key was lost, he flew into a rage.
Shamshad Begum informed the police that upon hearing about the lost key, Farrukh violently attacked her, slapped her across the face, pulled her hair, and tore her clothes. During the assault, he scratched her face with his nails, leaving her injured.
According to the statement, when her second son, Kashif Munir, stepped in to protect her, the accused scuffled with him and assaulted him as well. Kashif eventually managed to rescue his mother from the assault and called the emergency police helpline 15 to report the incident
Threat to life and demand for protection
In her written statement to the police, the complainant, Shamshad Begum, maintained that because Farrukh Munir is an active-duty police employee, his influence raises strong fears that he could target her or her other son, Kashif Munir, again or cause them life-threatening harm.
She has appealed to senior police officials to provide her and her son with immediate legal protection, take indiscriminate action against the suspect, and arrest him without delay to bring him to justice.
