CHUNIAN
Twenty year old S*, a resident of a village near Iqbal Town in Chunian, Punjab, was reportedly raped by her father, Manwar, and her brother-in-law, Zafar Iqbal, both of whom were arrested by the area police.
S* is Manwar’s daughter from his first wife. The accused has two daughters and two sons from his first wife, and two daughters and two sons from his second wife. The police has confirmed that Manwar and Zafar Iqbal raped Shagufta in separate circumstances, while the medical examination report has confirmed it.
According to statements provided by the family the girl was being raped by her father since years. S’s grandmother told Voicepk that Manwar had raped her for the first time when she was 12 years old. After her health deteriorated and her physical appearance changed, her mother and aunt took her to a local hospital for a check-up.
“After we took her for a medical checkup we found out that she was seven months pregnant,” the grandmother told Voicepk.
POLICE CASE
Meanwhile S’s mother filed a complaint against her husband at the city police station. The police registered a case based on her complaint and arrested Manwar, while Zafar Iqbal escaped.
In the aftermath of the situation, S is suffering from severe depression.
“The child that is growing in my womb is my brother-in-law Zafar Iqbal’s, who used to rape me regularly at home,” she said. “He would threaten to kill me if I told anyone.”
S was not Manwar’s only prey. S’s mother and grandmother revealed that Manwar was also trying to molest his other 15 year old daughter from his second wife. Because of his repeated misbehaviour, Manwar was driven out of his village in tehsil Chunian. The police officer concerned in this case informs Voicepk that Manwar raped his daughter and “doctors have also confirmed it after medical examination”. During investigation, the accused confessed to the crime.
