Two men convicted of raping and murdering a five-year-old girl have been acquitted by the Sindh High Court. The appellants, Ghulam Haider and Muhammad Salah, had been sentenced to life in prison in November 2017 for the crime, but were released due to doubts raised about the prosecution’s evidence.
The case had been based primarily on the testimony of two eyewitnesses, who the court found to be uncredible, and on medical evidence that was inconclusive. The defendants had challenged their conviction before the high court, and their appeals were allowed.

Sindh High Court Issues Notices in Nazim Jokhio Murder Case

The Sindh High Court has issued notices to the Prosecutor General and other individuals involved in the Nazim Jokhio murder case. This was done following a compromise with the deceased’s heirs, which resulted in the release of the accused Member of the Sindh Assembly Jam Owais and others.

Additionally, the National Commission for Human Rights was also involved. During the hearing of a petition against the order rejecting the petition to become a party, the petitioner’s lawyer argued that the subordinate court lacked the authority to approve the compromise, even in cases involving suppression of evidence and threats.
The court has asked the Prosecutor General and others to respond by March 17, after issuing notices to all relevant parties.
