Marriage of under 18 girls illegal: IHC
While hearing a case of abduction and marriage of a 16-year-old girl, Sawira Javed, Islamabad High Court (IHC) Judge Babar Sattar, declared that marriage of under 18 girls is illegal under any circumstances. The court later recommended that Sawira be sent to the Dar-ul-Aman.
Man accused of killing journalist Athar Mateen killed in encounter
According to Sindh Police, one of the two accused of the murder of Sama TV journalist Athar Mateen was killed during a police encounter in the Qambar Shahidkot area of Karachi on Tuesday. On February the 18th Athar Mateen was shot dead while he bravely tried to fight off robbers.
Dawn journalist receives threatening phone calls
Munawar Azeem, a Crime Beat reporter associated with Dawn newspaper’s Islamabad office, has reportedly received threatening phone calls from people claiming to be personnel of the Islamabad police. Sources claimed that when the paper approached the local police unknown people showed up at Munawar’s house and threatened his family.
