Eight arrested on suspicion of murder
Uch Sharif police in Bahawalpur district have arrested eight people on suspicion of killing a girl for ‘honour’ by poisoning her. The parents of the slain girl are among those arrested.
According to police, they were informed that Asma Bibi died under mysterious circumstances, and took immediate action to recover the body before burial for further investigation.
The girl’s father told the police that his daughter married Muhammad Iqbal of her free will, which enraged the girl’s brother. He said the siblings had a spat, following which Asma Bibi committed suicide by ingesting poison.
Seven-year-old child allegedly raped in Lahore
In the Batapur area of Lahore, a man took a seven-year-old girl playing outside her home and allegedly raped her. The police have registered a case against the accused at the request of the victim’s mother.
84 cases of blasphemy registered in 2021
According to a report released by the Center for Social Justice (CSJ), a total of 84 cases of blasphemy were registered in the year 2021.
According to the report, 42 cases were lodged against Muslim people, while in 25 cases the accused were Ahmadi. Seven Hindus and three Christians were also nominated in blasphemy cases. The suspects included six women and a transgender.
