Set marriageable age limit for girls: IHC

Justice Amir Farooq of the Islamabad High Court observed that the Federal Government should correct ambiguities in various laws regarding the marriageable age of girls, and should enact legislation in this regard. This was stated during a hearing in a case, in which the judge directed the authorities to set a minimum age for marriage for women. The Federal Law Secretary said that the government will implement the court’s directives.

RUDA allowed to enter into agreement with Saudi investor

A sub-committee of the Punjab Cabinet has approved investment in the industrial zones of the Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA). The committee authorized the Authority to enter into an agreement with a Saudi investor under sections 2(A) and 3(A) under the RUDA Act.

Last week, the Lahore High Court had declared the Ravi Riverfront Urban Development Project unconstitutional. However, the decision was later overturned by the Supreme Court, which gave RUDA conditional permission to continue work on the project.

Two bodies recovered from Panjgur

Two bullet-riddled bodies were discovered in Balochistan’s Panjgur district, two days after Baloch separatist militants attacked the headquarters of the Frontier Corps in the area. One of the dead has been identified as Ehtesham.

The situation in the area remains tense.
