Domestic child abuse survivor forgives father
A 12-year-old domestic abuse victim rescued by police and the Child Protection and Welfare Bureau (CPWB) four days ago told a judicial magistrate on Thursday that she forgives her father but does not want to return home to live with her stepmother.
On Tuesday, police were alerted to the abuse and reached the home of the victim in Akbarabad, Faisalabad along with a team of the CPWB, where they arrested Muhammad Sahil and his wife Asma. The girl was taken to a hospital where she stated that she was tortured for eating without permission, and that she had a brother who ran away from home due to the abuse.
After the beating, she took shelter in a neighbour’s home who made a video of the girl and uploaded it to social media.
A case was registered under sections 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention), 324 (attempted murder) and 328 (exposure and abandonment of child under twelve years by parent or person having care of it) of the PPC, and section 34 (unauthorized custody) of the Punjab Destitute and Neglected Children Act 2004.
On Thursday, the girl was produced before Faisalabad Judicial Magistrate Bushra Anwer by the CPWB to record her statement. Outside the court, she told the media that she had pardoned her father as she loved him and her brothers, but did not want to go back to living with her stepmother.
Juvenile accused of killing family
Police on Thursday claimed to have detained a 14-year-old boy in connection with the murder of a doctor and her three children nearly ten days ago.
Dr. Naheed Mubarak (45), her eldest son Taimur (20), and daughters Mahnoor Fatima (15) and Jannat (10) were found dead in their home in Lahore’s Kahna area on January 19. Her 14-year-old son was the only survivor.
However, police on Thursday revealed that the boy had confessed to killing his family in a fit of rage after he failed at a challenge in the online shooter PUBG: Battlegrounds. Police stated that the accused lost his senses when he lost a round after hours of playing, took his mother’s gun and shot her and his sisters dead while they slept.
Upon hearing the gunshots, his older brother came into the room and was also gunned down. Following the murders, the accused went back to his room and took a nap, after which he left his home to get rid of the gun. He threw it in a nearby drain and went back home, pretending to be asleep.
Police were able to square in on the suspect after finding a trail of blood that led from the scene of the crime to the boy’s room. They also found bloodstains on his clothes. Upon questioning, the accused confessed to the crime.
Man attacks woman with acid for refusing his advances
A woman suffered burns to 50% of her body after her harasser threw acid on her on Thursday. The incident occurred in Chak 65-WB in Vehari.
Police stated the girl was standing in street when accused Nauman (25) threw acid on her and fled. Rescue 1122 shifted her to the district headquarters (DHQ) hospital after giving her first aid. Police said that the accused was a neighbor who wanted a relationship with the victim, however she had turned down his advances.
A case has been lodged against Nauman and police are conduction searches for his arrest.
