A mob lynched to death a Sri Lankan man, on December 3. Priyantha Kumara, who was working as general manager in a sportswear manufacturing/exporting company was killed over allegedly committing blasphemy.
According to sources, Kumara was accused of blasphemy by his two co-workers. After that an angry and uncontrollable crowd attacked him inside the factory premises.
The mob while chanting religious slogans beat Kumar to death and then put his body on fire.
Kumar had been living and working in Pakistan since 2010. He had earlier worked in textile factories in Lahore and Faisalabad.
Sialkot police have confirmed the incident and said that they had the situation under control, but no FIR against the perpetrators of this violent crime had yet been lodged. Police have not arrested any person in connection to this brutal incident yet.
This is not the first time that an incident of deadly mob violence has happened in Sialkot
In another terrible episode, in 2010, two brothers were lynched after being accused of robbery. Their bodies were strung up with rope, hung and mutilated in the presence of rescue and police officials.
When Voicepk contacted the Sri Lankan embassy in Islamabad, their official refused to comment on the incident.
