Gujrat man throws acid on woman
Kunjah police have registered a case under sections 324 (attempted murder) and 336B (punishment for hurt by corrosive substance) of the Pakistan Penal Code against an unidentified man for throwing acid on a widowed mother of three.
According to police, Afshan Mushtaq, 35, was looking to marry after the death of her husband. On the day of the incident, she was at home when the unknown assailant barged inside and threw caustic acid at her face before fleeing.
The victim was shifted to the Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Teaching Hospital burn ward where she is said to be out of danger. Doctors said her eyes were unaffected.
Gunmen kidnap khawaja sira in Mardan
Mardan police have lodged a case against five persons for allegedly abducting a khawaja sira near Charsadda Chowk.
According to her statement to the police, one Mahbood, alias Zamarud of Mansehra who is now residing in Mardan, said that she received a call from Anmol, another khawaja sira, who said she was coming over to visit.
Mahbood stated that upon hearing some strange noises outside, she left her apartment to find Anmol standing there. One Fazl-e-Amin, a resident of Katlang, and four other unidentified, armed men suddenly appeared and forcibly took Anmol away at gunpoint.
City police have registered a case.
CII mulls over anti-rape bill
The Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) on Thursday, October 21, resolved to take up two provisions under the proposed Anti-Rape (Investigation and Trial) Bill, 2020, which will be discussed on October 26 and 27.
The Council has invited former member Justice (Retd) Raza Khan as a legal expert while officials from the Ministry of Law and Justice will also be present. The meeting will review the Criminal Law Amendment Ordinance 2020, which adds section 376-B to Criminal Procedure Code to allow castrating convicted rapists, under Shariah as well as the power of sessions courts to hear and decide rape cases.
The CII will also deliberate on the possibility of penal punishment instead of the death penalty for some crimes.
