Hyderabad man tortures wife to death

One Umer Khalid Memon, a resident of Barrage Colony in Hyderabad, allegedly tortured his wife to death on July 15, Baldia police stated on Sunday. He was arrested when he took his wife’s body to a nearby hospital.

According to police, the suspect confessed to regularly beating his spouse, Qurat-ul-Ain Baloch, with whom he has four children.

According to the post-mortem report, the body bore several bruises and lacerations on the face – marks on her nose, cheeks and below the chin indicated that pressure had been applied to her nose and mouth by hand.

Some social media users have claimed that the suspect is an influential and is negotiating with the police for his release. Meanwhile, the woman’s family have expressed dissatisfaction with the investigation, and claim the police have altered the autopsy report.

Haripur man guns down wife, mother-in-law

One Mohammad Asif Khan, a resident of Bilal Town in the Ghazi area of Haripur, shot dead his wife and mother-in-law and injured his two-month-old son after arguing with his wife on Saturday, July 17.

According to the suspect’s eight-year-old son, Abdullah Khan, his father exchanged harsh words with his mother, Uzma Bibi, over an unknown reason before pulling out a gun and shooting at her. Asif also opened fire on his mother-in-law, Tauheed Bibi, when she tried rescuing her daughter. Abdullah told Ghizri police that a stray bullet also hit his infant brother, Mohiz Khan, in the leg while he himself managed to avoid injury by locking himself in the bathroom.

The minor boy stated that he came out of hiding when his father left the house, and informed his neighbours who took the bodies and the wounded infant to the tehsil headquarters (THQ) hospital Ghazi. A case has been registered against Asif who is believed to have absconded from the area. Police say the motive behind the murder is yet unknown.

Underage girls raped in Gujranwala

Two underage girls were sexually assaulted in separate incidents in Alipur Chattha, Gujranwala, on Sunday, July 18.

In the first incident, a 15-year-old domestic worker was allegedly raped by the son of her employer, Attaullah Butt. The suspect fled after assaulting her, however police were able to arrest him and register a case on the complaint of the girl’s parents.

In the second incident, an orphaned girl residing with her uncle in Jatanwala village was assaulted by an armed suspect who invaded the house along with an accomplice. The girl’s cries however drew locals to the scene, at which the suspects fled. Police have registered a case against the suspect.

Locals staged a protest against the two incidents, and told media that seven rapes have occurred in the area in the past few days.
