Three murdered for ‘honour’ in Mardan

Assailants on Friday, May 21, killed a female relative and two brothers of a rival family in the Khao Toru area in an honour-related dispute.

In the FIR registered against a man and his three sons at the Toru police station, the complainant stated that he and his brothers were bringing fodder for their cattle when their rivals suddenly ambushed them with a hail of bullets, killing his brothers on the spot. The complainant managed to survive the assault.

According to the police, the prime accused also later shot dead his own daughter. The police claim to have arrested two of the suspected killers.

Alternative Dispute Resolution Act enforced in tribal districts

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Act 2020 was officially enforced in six tribal districts of the province on May 5 while May 21 was fized as the initiation of the enforcement of the law in South Waziristan, Kurram, Orakzai, Khyber, Mohmand and Bajaur.

Tribal leaders and elders have welcomed this legislation as they expect it to provide legal options to residents to resolve their concerns outside the courts.

ICT police launch gender protection units

The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) police on Friday formally inaugurated its newly established Gender Protection Unit, a dedicated division that will handle cases of domestic and sexual violence, harassment, child abuse and exploitation.

The Unit and an associated helpline are being managed by female police officers to inculcate an inclusive and safe environment for women and children, while the induction of women doctors and psychologists will help ensure a sensitive approach in cases of sexual violence and effective investigation. The Unit has also dedicated a separate space for children.
