Missing woman’s body recovered from retired major’s farmhouse
Karachi police recovered the body of a beautician who went missing six months from a farmhouse owned by a retired major of the Pakistan Army in Memon Goth.
Aziz Akbar, a former employee of the Pakistan Steel Mills, told the Steel Town police that his wife left home on October 3 and did not return, and that her phone was unreachable. Four months after her disappearance, Akbar informed Karachi East Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Nauman Siddiqui that his family had been approached by one Muhammad Abbas Bangash who offered to recover the missing woman if they would pay him Rs. 500,000.
The case was transferred to the Anti-Violent Crime Cell, and police were able to trace and apprehend Bangash. Bangash revealed that the woman had been killed and buried, however he professed he did not know who the killer was. Acting on the information, police were able to recover the decomposing corpse of the victim from the farmhouse of one Major (retired) Mehboob Akhtar Mian.
Bangash stated that the retired major and two of his bodyguards frequented the woman’s salon and befriended her. Some time later, Bangash had overheard of the bodyguards informing Mehboob that he needed to conceal the woman’s corpse another way. However, Bangash was discovered and involved him in the plot.
He also stated that the woman’s husband, Akhtar, owned two plots of lands in Thatta. Mehmoob fraudulently transferred ownership of both plots to Bangash to sell. The deceased victim’s son provided that Bangash had sold two plots owned by his mother in Dhabejee, and claimed that the suspects had murdered her in order to swipe up his father’s retirement fund that he had received from the Pakistan Steel Mills.
Police however are continuing investigation into the case, and believe the motive may have been something more than just extortion. They are currently working on apprehending Mehboob and others involved in the murder.
Teacher, student and one other nabbed for harassing female student
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested a teacher of the Government College University Faisalabad and two others for harassing and blackmailing a female student. The victim claimed that the teacher with the help of a student of the mass communication department and her ex-husband doctored vulgar Whatsapp messages and shared it with her family members.
A case was registered under sections 20 (malicious code), 21 (cyber stalking) and 24 (legal recognition of offences committed in relation to information system) of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act 2016, and section 109 (Punishment of abetment if the act abetted committed in consequence and where no express provision is made for its punishment) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
FIA officials had initially nabbed the woman’s ex-husband and a student of the university, the latter of whom confessed that the fake chat had been created by the lectured, and that he was told to share it with the woman’s former husband. The student also further alleged that the teacher had done all this as he wanted to have an affair with the girl.
The FIA was able to detain the prime accused on Sunday, April 18, and retrieve the fake chat from his cellphones.
Seminary teacher held for fracturing student’s arm
Haripur police arrested one Raja Tahir Mehmood, head of the Rehmania Madrassa, for brutally torturing a ten-year-old student. The boy’s father Qari Khan Mohammad, a prayer leader, complained to the police that the accused had beaten his son with a bamboo stick which resulted in a fractured arm. A medical examination confirmed the extent of the injury, following which the seminary teacher was arrested.
