Vaccination to begin in next few days
Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, and National Command and Operations Center (NCOC) head Asad Umar announces Pakistan will begin vaccinating registered frontline healthcare workers in the next few days, following the arrival of half-a-million Sinopharm vaccine vials on Monday, January 1.
While the federal government’s distribution plan to the provinces, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir has been so far kept confidential, Sindh is confirmed to receive 83,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. The province will commence the vaccination drive following an inauguration at the Chief Minister’s House on Wednesday. Meanwhile, a NCOC team surveying nine vaccination centers set up in Karachi expressed its satisfaction of all facilities. Sindh has so far registered 170,000 frontline healthcare workers for inoculation, and is expected to deliver a total of 450 doses daily in Karachi.
Lady Reading Hospital doctors, staff contract virus
Several doctors and staff at the Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar who contracted COVID-19 have opted for home-isolation instead of admitting themselves at the hospital itself, according to a report published in The News. Most of the infected healthcare workers have fitted their homes with personal oxygen cylinders while they recover the disease.
