
Arzoo Raja case suspect charged with rape
A judicial magistrate on Wednesday, December 9, ordered levying rape charges against Syed Ali Azhar, prime accused in the Arzoo Raja forced conversion and marriage case. Arzoo was found to be 14 years old, and therefore a minor as defined in the Sindh Child Marriage Restraint Act (2013). As such, the court also ordered that a case under section 3 of the Sindh Child Marriages Act also be lodged against Azhar and cleric Qazi Abdul Rasool Naqshbandi who ‘solemnized’ the marriage.
Non-bailable arrest warrants have been issued for other suspects in the case for abducting and forcing Arzoo into the marriage contract.
Man shoots dead wife in Rawalpindi
A resident of Rawalpindi’s Bahria Town Phase 7 gunned down his wife over a property dispute on Tuesday.
According to the victim’s brother, she had purchased some property and often quarreled with her husband who wanted her to transfer it to his name. Some days prior to her murder, the deceased’s brother claimed she had called to tell him that her husband had threatened to kill her. On the day of the incident, the deceased’s daughters called their uncle to inform them that their mother had been shot and killed by their father.
An FIR has been lodged with the Rawat police.
Minor boy abducted, raped in Layyah
An eleven-year-old boy was abducted and raped by two unidentified men in an under construction building in Layyah, Punjab. A medico-legal examination of the minor confirmed sexual assault. A case has been registered, while suspects are at large.
