The positivity rate rises to 7.7% in Islamabad

The COVID test-positivity rate has risen to 7.7pc in Islamabad with 228 confirmed cases based on 2,958 tests carried out in the last 24 hours. The federal capital has reported 20,694 cases with 229 deaths. A total of 18,505 recoveries and 1,960 active cases have been confirmed in the city.

Single-day deaths spike to 26

The Health Ministry has said 26 people died of COVID amid the highest single-day spike since July 31. New fatalities raised the death toll to 6,893. Another 1,302 people tested positive for the virus bringing the tally to 338,775.

Provinces to keep schools open

In a meeting with Federal Minister Shafqat Mahmood, provincial education ministers agreed to keep schools open saying the closure was not needed for now. The provinces will deliberate on the shortening of winter vacations and start of the academic year from August instead of April,  in December.
