Minor ‘murders’ aunt for the honour

Saddar police booked a nine-year-old boy for shooting his aunt, one Kanwal Parveen, dead on Tuesday, September 22, at a residence in Chak 104-SB, Sargodha.

According to police reports, Parveen was estranged from her family for contracting a marriage of her free will nearly a decade back, however, both parties had reconciled. On the day of the incident, Parveen was visiting to offer her congratulations on the birth of her maternal uncle’s son, when her minor nephew opened fire and killed her.

Although the child was initially arrested, police later released him under the custody of his father. Police believe the incident to be an honour-killing plot, and that the boy was trained to carry out the murder, as there were no legal provisions that could be applied to him.

Protest against the rape of Mansehra minor

Locals on Tuesday staged a protest against the rape of a four-year-old girl in Pakhwal area of Mansehra on September 21. Demonstrators demanded the immediate arrest and trial of the accused, who was reportedly released from detention by the police after pressure from his family. Local police managed to disperse the crowd after giving assurances that the culprit would be swiftly arrested.

Case lodged against 8 for rape bid

Ghala Mandi police registered a case against eight men, including a theatre owner and his brother, for allegedly torturing and attempting to rape a stage actress.

In her recorded statement to the police, the Lahore-based performer said that she had travelled to Sahiwal to perform at the Marian Commercial Theatre, and was staying in one of the rooms at the premises when she was approached by the theatre owner and her brother in the afternoon.

The two propositioned her for sexual favours for their guests from Dubai, but upon her refusal, the pair pulled a gun on her and began threatening her. The accused summoned their guards and began thrashing her – during the beating, they tore off her clothes and attempted to gang-rape her, but the victim managed to barricade herself in a room and cry out for help.

An FIR under sections 376 (punishment for rape) and 511 (punishment for attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life or for shorter terms) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) has been lodged against the theatre owner, his brother and the remaining six unidentified individuals. Police are on the hunt for the nominated suspects.

Minor girl raped by 2 cousins in AJK

Police arrested two adult cousins for raping their ten-year-old orphaned relative in Kaneri Langla village in Jhelum Valley, Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

According to police, they were informed of a jirga trial where the cousins were fined Rs. 200,000 each for the committing the offence, and faced banishment if they were unable to pay the amount. A team was sent to the village to investigate the matter and returned with the abuse victim and her elder sister to record their statements.

It was revealed that the minor girl was raped on at least four different occasions by her step-cousins, one of which was in his 20s and was married while the other was 18 years old. An FIR was lodged under section 10 of the Offence of Zina (Enforcement of Hudood) Act 1985 against the accused. Upon questioning, police learned that the suspects were unable to pay the fine imposed on them by the jirga, and had likely fled to Mirpur and Rawalkot.

However, police managed to recover the absconders the next day. One of the accused has been produced before a magistrate today for physical remand, while the co-accused will be summoned tomorrow.

Girl killed for the honour by family

A girl of Away Kalay village in Jawaki Banda area of Darra Adam Khel was strangled and killed by her brother, uncle and cousin for wanting to marry of her free will on Tuesday.

The honour crime occurred after the victim was found talking to a friend on her phone. According to the father, who admitted to the offence, his daughter was choked to death by her uncle and cousin.

A case has been registered under sections 302 (punishment for murder with intent) and 322 (punishment for involuntary manslaughter) of the PPC and the accused have been sent on judicial remand upon confessing to the murder.

Woman abducted, gang-raped in Karachi

In another incident of violent sexual crimes against women, a woman was abducted and gang-raped by two unidentified men in an apartment in Karachi’s Clifton area Monday night. The incident was not reported until Tuesday

According to the rape survivor’s statement, she was waiting for her bus after finishing up with work in Clifton when two men forced her into their car and took her to their apartment where they proceeded to gang-rape her. They then abandoned her. An FIR was lodged after a medico-legal examination of the victim confirmed sexual assault, however, police have yet to make any arrests.
