Virus precautions before schools reopen
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has planned to carry out 3,000 daily randomized tests for teachers and students on campuses after schools reopen on September 15. The results of the tests will be forwarded to the National Command and Operations Center (NCOC). Testing will be concentrated in larger schools, and contact tracing will be carried out should a student or teacher tests positive for the novel coronavirus disease. Teachers, staff members, and students whose relatives have previously contracted the disease or are COVID-19 positive will undergo mandatory testing.
Meanwhile, Gujrat health authorities have screened some 3,300 faculty and staff members of government schools and colleges ahead of the new school year. 2,000 faculty and staff of the University of Gujrat, 400 teachers and staff of government colleges and 900 of government schools have been tested for the contagion through randomized testing and smart sampling. Approximately 15,000 staff and faculty are employed in government educational institutions in Gujrat, however health officials state that due to time constraints, they will be unable to screen all employees but the department was aiming to test as many individuals as possible before schools reopen.
3 virus deaths across the country
Two patients in Punjab and a senior doctor in Sindh succumbed to the virus on Sunday, September 6, raising the national death toll to 6,345.
Meanwhile, 118 recovered in the past 24 hours, taking the country’s recovery rate to 95.7%. The emergence of 394 fresh cases in the same time frame raised the total number of active cases to 6,542.
According to official data, 188 cases against 8,999 tests in Sindh, 63 cases against 271 tests in Balochistan, 60 cases against in Punjab, 34 cases against 2,650 tests in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 29 cases against 209 tests in Gilgit-Baltistan, 16 cases against 2,274 tests in Islamabad Capital Territory and four cases against 289 tests in Azad Jammu and Kashmir were recorded on September 6.
A total of 20,980 tests were conducted across Pakistan with Balochistan recording the highest daily case positivity ratio of 23.24%, followed by Gilgit-Baltistan’s ratio of 13.88%.
