Arifwala Saddar police in Sahiwal arrested a man in Chak 72-EB for shooting his sister-in-law dead for refusing to divorce his elder brother and marry him. The victim, Rabia Bibi, married the suspect’s elder brother 16 years ago and had borne him 3 children. Rabia’s husband moved to the UAE for employment, leaving his wife in children back in their village. The accused, Abdul Hameed, began pushing her to marry him.

On the day of the incident, Abdul Hameed became enraged when Rabia rejected his proposal yet again, and chased her to her mother’s hand where he shot at her twice. One of the bullets pierced Rabia’s chest, killing her on the spot. Rabia’s mother was also shot and injured when she rushed to her daughter’s aid. The accused managed to escape arrest.

A Peshawar High Court bench granted bail against submission of a surety bond worth Rs. 200,000 each to two brothers convicted of murdering their sister-in-law for honor nearly 3 months ago. The deceased’s father had nominated his two sons and his son-in-law, Rehmanuddin, as prime accused. Rehmanuddin is still at large.

Punjab Prisoners To Be Pardoned

Punjab CM Usman Buzdar announced on Thursday, May 21, a general pardon for 1,000 inmates detained in Punjab prisons. Inmates with a remaining prison term of 6 months or less who have not been convicted in anti-state and terrorist activities, women and children with remaining prison terms of 1 year or less, and women who have served 75% of their prison term and without any prior convictions have received the pardon before Eid.

Bajaur Health Worker Shot Dead

Unidentified men gunned down Abdul Wahab, an Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI) technician of Sharif Khana area in the Bajaur tribal district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Wednesday, May 20. The victim was fatally wounded in the attack and succumbed to his injuries during treatment at the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital Khar. According to locals and Wahab’s friends and family, the deceased was well-loved and had no enmity with anyone. Police are investigating the crime as one among a series of target killings in the area.
