Case Registered Against 12 for Disrupting Aurat March

3 Min Read

The Islamabad Police in Kohsar has registered a case against 12 individuals for disrupting yesterday’s Aurat Azaadi March – including Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (Fazl) member Maulana Abdul Majeed Hizravi as well as 300 to 400 ‘unknown people’.

Some of the others nominated in the FIR include Maulana Shabir Ahmed Usmani, Maulana Hafiz Maqsood Ahmed, Maulana Rizwan Makki, Mufti Abdullah, Maulana Abdul Waheed Qasmi, Maulana Abdul Rasheed Tauheedi, Maulana Liaquat Ali Turabi, Maulana Nasir Ahmed, Maulana Asadullah Abbasi, Maulana Abdul Majeed Hizravi and Maulana Abdul Razzaq Haidri.

According to the FIR which was also tweeted by the Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad, Muhammad Hamza Shafqaat, around 35 unidentified people out of the 400 pushed and attacked the police officers on duty at the march.

In the case registered by the State, many sections of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) were invoked including Section 147 (Punishment for rioting), 149 (Every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of a common object), 186 (Obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 188 (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), 341 (Punishment for wrongful restraint), and 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty).

At least five participants of the Aurat Azaadi March were injured but the police still has not registered a case against this, or the miscreants for pelting stones and bricks at them as yet.

Meanwhile, the other march held simultaneously along the Aurat March by student of Jama Hafsa, was held without obtaining a no-objection certificate from the authorities, said the FIR.

Prominent human rights lawyer, Asad Jamal raised questions and concerns about the way the case has been registered and pointed out its flaws in his tweet earlier today.
