In 1995, a 14-year-old Christian boy was sentenced to death, while tensions outside the Lahore High Court grew so intense that lawyers, judges and those involved in the case faced threats and violence. Asma Jahangir took on the fight for Salamat, confronting not only the legal case but also the pressure surrounding it—and paid a personal price for doing so. The case also brought Pakistan’s blasphemy laws into the political spotlight, with Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto expressing shock at the death sentence and questions emerging over the future and application of these laws. This documentary revisits the case, the courtroom battle, the violence and pressure surrounding it, and the risks Asma Jahangir faced in defending a child who had been condemned to death.
