The Punjab Prosecution Department has declared the Hina Javed murder case as “high-profile”, and has constituted a team of senior prosecutors to pursue the case in the trial court, while forensics results are awaited.
Police sources say that the couple’s domestic worker Zeeshan has confessed to murdering Hina Javed, but because the forensic reports are still pending, other details regarding the murder have still not become clearer. Senior lawyers state that a confession made by an accused in police custody, holds no legal value. It should be noted that the crime has not yet been proven against the husband of the victim, Faisal Asghar Imam, and the matter is under investigation.

Meanwhile, demands for “Justice for Hina”, are gaining momentum across social media, from showbiz personalities, and others.
Actress Mahira Khan expressed her sorrow and grief, over the case and the circumstances of Hina’s murder. She raised questions regarding the safety of women in society and expressed solidarity with Hina’s family during this difficult time. Following her reaction, the discussion surrounding the Hina Javed case became more prominent on social media.
Actress and model, Iffat Omar, demanded action from the Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, to take notice of the matter and raise an effective voice against incidents of violence against women. Omar emphasized that government officials possessed the power to take effective action and assist affected families in such matters, and therefore these powers should be utilized. Actor Osman Khalid Butt termed the emerging case details ‘alarming’ and questioned whether the victim’s family would be able to get timely justice this time.
Prosecution
Prosecutor General Punjab, Irfan Sadiq Tarar, has issued special directions to District Public Prosecutor Rawalpindi Mian Imran Rahim for effective legal pursuit. An important meeting was held at the District Prosecutor’s office, attended by SP Pothohar Asar Ali, DSP Muhammad Shakeel, SHO Civil Lines Police Station Asif Sajjad, and Deputy District Public Prosecutor Rawalpindi Rehman Shaukat Bhatti. During the meeting, a detailed review of the investigation conducted so far and the progress of the prosecution in Hina Javed’s murder was undertaken. District Public Prosecutor Mian Imran Rahim meticulously examined the available case records, investigative progress, and evidence.
Necessary instructions were issued to the concerned investigating officers to advance the probe on more effective, comprehensive, and scientific grounds, while a clear line of inquiry was also issued keeping in view all possible aspects of evidence so that no important piece of evidence or investigative aspect is overlooked. Formed under directions of the Prosecutor General, the special committee of senior prosecutors will continuously review the progress of the case and provide all possible legal assistance to the investigation team.

Case background
According to the case registered at Rawalpindi’s Civil Lines Police Station on the complaint of the deceased’s brother, the body of 45-year-old Hina Javed was recovered on the morning of August 20 from the bathroom of her in-laws’ house. Chilling details recorded in the FIR revealed the victim’s hands were tied behind her back, a cloth was tied over her mouth, while an electric wire was wrapped around her neck and tied to the shower fixture. Hina Javed’s family has nominated the victim’s husband, father-in-law, and a domestic worker in this murder case, saying that her husband was abusive and toxic.
Speaking to Voicepk, a Rawalpindi police official stated that interrogation of the suspects is ongoing and after the forensic report, the challan of the case will be prepared and presented in court. Regarding the domestic worker’s confession, the police official said they can neither confirm nor deny it at this stage.
During the interrogation, domestic worker Zeeshan changed his statement three times. The first time he said he had helped the victim’s husband Faisal in murdering Hina, adding that he had promised to pay him 100,000 rupees for the murder.
Faisal Asghar, who is the main accused, completely denied the allegation, while his father Col (R) Asghar Ali, who had initially called Hina’s brother to the crime scene, saying that he should come as ‘it was urgent’, also expressed complete ignorance and denial of involvement in the crime. Police said that after the report from the forensic laboratory arrived, other key facts of the case would then be unveiled and the investigation will move forward.
In a conversation with Voicepk, former Deputy Attorney General Sardar Muhammad Masroof stated that even if a suspect confesses before the police, it carries no legal standing because superior court judgments exist ruling that a suspect’s 161 confession statement has no legal significance.
However, if the suspect records a statement before the area magistrate under Section 164, it can certainly be made part of the official record; but even for that, it is necessary that the prosecution fights its case in the trial court and proves the crime against the suspect. A suspect cannot be declared guilty merely on the basis of a confession before the police or the area magistrate.
According to the post-mortem report conducted approximately 12 hours after Hina Javed’s death, the deceased’s neck bone was found broken, while clear marks of injuries were also present on her ribs and hip. The report also revealed that the membrane around Hina Javed’s heart was filled with blood.
Suspects in police custody
At present those in police custody are the victim’s husband Faisal Asghar and domestic worker Zeeshan. The suspects will be presented in the local court of Rawalpindi upon completion of physical remand. Recently, the court had granted a 4-day physical remand of the suspects for investigation.
To collect scientific evidence during physical remand, police have shifted both suspects to Lahore, where their DNA and polygraph tests were conducted to advance the investigation. Police officials say that in light of the forensic test reports and other evidence found at the crime scene, the investigation will be brought to its logical conclusion.

The viral video is from a corporate training lecture titled “Should Managers Judge or Understand the Issue?”
During the lecture, while presenting a hypothetical scenario to the audience to explain administrative decisions and human behavior, Faisal Asghar Imam gave a chilling example of a husband shooting his wife. “What do you think, is this a right thing or wrong?” he asked a girl sitting in the front row, almost aggressively.
Instead of immediately declaring that person bad, he asks the audience to consider the potential reasons behind the incident and presents various hypothetical reasons that exonerate the husband such as severe intoxication, behavioral changes due to a tumor in the brain’s prefrontal cortex, and a situation like the wife’s infidelity.
Currently no evidence has come to light linking the viral video to the current murder case, however the public is seeing it as a display of his mindset.
Earlier the family of Hina issued a press release saying they were hopeful for justice:
“The family places its full faith in Pakistan’s legal and judicial system and is confident that justice will prevail. At the same time, the coming days are critical. The integrity of the investigation will determine whether Hina receives the justice she is owed.
We are deeply concerned that Hina’s father-in-law, whom the family believes to be complicit in her death, has not yet been arrested. We demand that he be taken into custody without further delay and that his role be fully investigated. Every person who enabled, concealed, or participated in this crime must face the law. Partial accountability is no accountability.
We call on the Punjab Police and the relevant authorities to ensure that the investigation is conducted with complete transparency, free from any influence, pressure, or delay. We urge the media, civil society, and the public to remain vigilant and to follow this case closely until its conclusion. Hina’s case must not become one more file that fades from public view.
