A 17-year-old girl was reportedly shot dead by her brother over resentment surrounding her love marriage in Ayub Kiani Town, Gujjar Khan, in Rawalpindi district. Police have arrested the nominated suspect after registering a case against him.
According to details, 17-year-old Nimra Yasir was shot and killed by her brother, Amir Hamza, on the night of August 12 at a home they had rented in Ayub Kiani Town. Nimra had reportedly left her home in January 2026 and married Yasir Mahmood, a man of her choice. After the marriage, she had been living with her husband in Karachi.
Disapproval of marriage
Speaking to Voicepk, Nimra’s father, Munir Ahmed Shah, said that his daughter had left home around eight months earlier and married a man of her own choice.
He said Nimra had married against the wishes of her family and that her husband belonged to a different sect from the family – he was from a ‘non-Syed’ caste.
Munir Ahmed Shah said that he himself belonged to the Syed family and that, following Nimra’s marriage, the family allegedly faced social pressure and taunts because she had married a young man from a non-Syed family. According to him, this issue had created resentment and disagreement within the household.
He said his son, Amir Hamza, had allegedly brought Nimra and her husband, Yasir Mahmood, back from Karachi a few days before the incident. The couple rented a house in Ayub Kiani Town, Gujjar Khan, and began living there.
FIR details
Meanwhile according to the First Information Report (FIR), at around 8:30pm on August 12, Nimra’s father, Munir Ahmed Shah, reached the house in Ayub Kiani Town with his wife and son to meet Nimra. As they approached the house, they allegedly heard sounds of shouting and commotion coming from inside.
The FIR states that after entering the house, the family saw Amir Hamza beating Nimra. During the incident, Amir Hamza took out a pistol and fired at Nimra. The bullet struck her on the right side of her chest, causing injuries. Nimra died at the scene, while the shooter fled after the incident.
Following the incident, a police team reached the scene and inspected the site. Police conducted an initial examination of Nimra’s body and shifted it to the tehsil headquarters hospital (THQ) for a post-mortem examination.
The victim’s father said his son, Amir Hamza, took an extreme step in anger; he had never imagined that his son would go as far as killing Nimra.
He further said that Amir Hamza had brought Nimra and her husband back from Karachi on Wednesday. At the time, the family believed that Amir Hamza might have brought them back in an attempt to reconcile the family and resolve the dispute. However, according to the father, the situation later turned into a tragic incident.
Munir Ahmed Shah said he was deeply saddened by the killing of his daughter and had never imagined that the family dispute would reach such an extreme point.
Following the incident, a case was registered at Gujjar Khan Police Station on the complaint of Nimra’s father, Munir Ahmed Shah, against nominated suspect Amir Hamza. The FIR includes Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code, relating to murder, as well as Section 311, concerning murder committed in the name of honour.
Police said that after registration of the case, efforts were launched to arrest the nominated suspect. According to police, Amir Hamza was taken into custody last night. Further investigation into the case is underway.
