A court in Dadu has ordered jail authorities to immediately grant better prison facilities to former member of National Assembly Ali Wazir, who has been held at District Jail Dadu since his re-arrest on March 16.
The order was issued by Judge Qambar Ali Jamali on Tuesday (April 21) during a hearing into FIR No. 40/2026 — registered against Wazir under the B-Section jurisdiction of Dadu — which his legal team has described as false and politically motivated.
Wazir himself appeared before the court and apprised the judge of the hardships he has faced at the hands of jail authorities. He had staged a 48-hour hunger strike inside District Jail Dadu to protest the denial of medical care, after prison authorities refused him medical attention during a severe blood pressure crisis on April 14.
After hearing arguments from Wazir’s counsel, Imdad Hyder Solangi, the court announced its reserved decision and directed the Superintendent of Dadu Jail to immediately grant B-class facilities to the jailed leader. The next hearing has been scheduled for April 28, 2026.
Speaking to Voicepk, Solangi said he had earlier submitted an application under Section 63 Cr.P.C. requesting the court to dismiss the FIR and discharge Wazir. The judge heard the application and reserved the order. However, at the subsequent hearing, the investigation officer submitted the final challan in the case, following which Judge Jamali ruled that he could no longer adjudicate on the application, as the challan’s submission had converted the matter into a sessions trial, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Sessions Judge.
Solangi contested the ruling, arguing that since the judge had already heard the application before the challan was filed and had reserved his decision, he remained obligated to pass an order on it. The judge, however, rejected the counsel’s request.
Solangi said he intends to challenge that ruling before the constitutional bench of the Sindh High Court’s Hyderabad Circuit, which is scheduled to hear a petition for the quashment of the alleged false cases against Wazir on April 22.
Wazir has been in custody since March 16, the same day the Sindh High Court (SHC) ordered his release from Sukkur Central Jail. According to his legal team, he was returning home with family and associates that evening when a large contingent of police and plainclothes law enforcement personnel arrived in government vehicles and forcibly detained him. Mobile phones were seized, those present were assaulted, and family members were allegedly warned against approaching any court.
His whereabouts remained unknown for two days. A habeas corpus petition was filed before the District Judge Sukkur on March 18, followed by a constitutional petition before the SHC the following day. Wazir was eventually produced before the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Naushahro Feroze on March 19 and sent to Dadu Jail on judicial remand. He has since been implicated in three FIRs that his legal team describes as “false, bogus, and fabricated.”
