ISLAMABAD

A shooting incident in the Yaro area of Pishin district Balochistan resulted in the deaths of three individuals and the injury of one other. The deceased have been identified as Muhammad Naeem, a local school teacher, his 16-year-old daughter Sidra, and his nephew Shaharyar. The mother of the girl was injured and is currently under treatment at the Quetta Trauma Centre. The MS Civil Hospital Quetta, Dr Hadi Kakar said that she was in a critical condition.

According to a statement from a police source, the incident took place at approximately 9:00 PM on Thursday, March 26, 2026, when the suspect, Pervez Khajak, entered the house of Muhammad Naeem and opened fire.
This was after the rejection of a marriage proposal for the 16-year-old daughter, Sidra.

Police further stated that the suspect’s family had shifted from the village of Majak to Yaro Bazaar and had been pressuring the family for the proposal for several months.

Background

The victim’s family belongs to the Yousafzai tribe and is described by the locals as highly educated. The family shifted to the area decades ago as their elders served in various government departments relevant to their professional backgrounds. Sources indicate the family had discussed a proposal for the girl with a relative in Karachi.
The suspect’s father was reportedly killed several years ago in a tribal feud, and the family was locally known for involvement in criminal cases.

Mediation and warnings

Local sources, including Maulana Muhammad Noman, a local scholar, attempted to intervene before the violence. A local source stated that he and a local clerk visited the alleged murderer twice and tried to convince him to be calm because the family of the girl had engaged her to another boy, but he was not convinced.
During a protest on the National Highway, a family elder alleged that this incident happened due to police negligence and lack of timely action. He stated that the suspect had previously attacked the house while armed and they had warned the police of this threat.

Official and administrative action

Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfaraz Bugti condemned the killings and ordered the immediate arrest of the perpetrator. IGP Balochistan Muhammad Tahir and other senior officials visited the affected family’s home to provide assurances of justice.
Assistant Commissioner Pishin Naqeebullah Agha and police officials negotiated with protesters, assuring them that the accused would be arrested within a three-day deadline.

Local journalist Asmatullah Hanafi told Voicepk that after a raid on the suspect’s house resulted in no arrests, the administration under pressure from local elders, political parties, and religious scholars bulldozed the house of the culprit. Police have registered a case and investigations are ongoing.
