HYDERABAD
Following the brutal case of rape and torture of a 14-year-old girl from Sanghar, the Chottiaro police has arrested the accused. A case had been registered against Wazir, son of Waris Rajar, in the Chottiario police station based on the statement of the rape survivor. The extreme torture and rape were also confirmed in the initial medical report, and police investigation is now underway.
The case shook the public across Sindh, and after uproar by various civil society activists, the provincial government formed a high-level committee to monitor the investigation, which includes the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Mirpurkhas and two Senior Superintendents (SSP) from Hyderabad and Sanghar.
According to the initial medico-legal certificate issued by the District Police Surgeon, SBM was brought to Civil Hospital Sanghar at 3:45 a.m. on the night of the incident. She was in a semi-unconscious state, and the black clothes she was wearing were torn and soaked in blood.
As per the medical certificate, SBM had sustained injuries inflicted with a sharp-edged weapon on her face, forehead, below the eyes, nasal bone, both lips, ear, and tongue.
The incident was also strongly condemned by PPP leader and member of National Assembly, Shazia Marri. Earlier Marri also met the rape survivor and her family at the Civil Hospital Hyderabad and assured them of justice.
Details of the case
Fourteen year old SBM* from the Mallah family living on the banks of the old Nara Canal in the Chottiario area of Sanghar, was raped on the night of January 21, 2026 after which her face and tongue were badly mutilated with a sharp instrument.
The girl was initially admitted to the Sanghar hospital, from where she was shifted to the Burns and Plastic Surgery ward of Nawabshah Hospital, and later to the Hyderabad Civil Hospital. A 12-member medical board has been formed for her treatment.
The girl’s mother lamented that they were vulnerable and needed support for fighting this case.
“We are poor people,” she cried. “Terrible injustice has been done to us. My daughter was first raped, then cut and injured. Please help us. The accused cut up my daughter’s face. Now we want justice.”
Meanwhile, Shazia Marri assured the family of justice.
“The accused involved in this brutality should be punished by the courts so that in future, no one dares commit such atrocities,” she said. “This is a very sensitive incident and the survivor has suffered serious injuries affecting her body and her soul both.”
She added that her party had always raised its voice for women’s rights, and all the accused involved in this incident would definitely be punished. Those involved in such serious crimes would not be forgiven under any circumstances, she said. She said that her sister Quratul Ain Marri had also immediately reached out to the victims as soon as she received the news of the incident.
Formation of medical board
A special medical board consisting of twelve senior doctors has been formed which is to ensure the best possible treatment for the girl.
Dr. Roshan Chandio, Registrar of Lums Burns Ward, said that the girl was suffering from severe trauma since the rape-torture.
“The girl’s face was cut badly with something sharp,” he said. “We are carrying out surgery and giving her psychological treatment so she can cope with her trauma. A board of expert medical professionals has been formed and we intend to give her a new life by treating her.”
Women’s Action Forum (WAF) leader Musarrat Hussain said that cases of rape of girls in particular have increased in Sindh.
“A shepherd’s son has raped an innocent girl in Sanghar and brutally tortured her, mutilating her face, she said. “But previously, dismembered bodies of women have also been found in Sanghar. A woman was raped by officers inside the police station in Jacobabad Thal. The accused should be punished immediately so that it becomes a lesson for others.”
