HANGU
Prem Nagar village in district Hangu stands as a remarkable example of peace, tolerance and mutual respect in Pakistan. This is a settlement where Muslims, Sikhs, Christians and other minority communities have been living together in a peaceful environment for decades.
Different places of worship, one village
The most distinctive feature of Prem Nagar is that a mosque, gurdwara, temple and church all exist within the same village. These places of worship are not only symbols of religious freedom but also practical proof that followers of different religions can live peacefully while respecting each other’s beliefs.
“Prem Nagar is perhaps the first or only village in Pakistan where people of different religions live in the same settlement and all their places of worship are also present,” says Umar Farooq a journalist. He says the village carries a positive message for the world: religious diversity is not a weakness for any society but a strength.
A century-old settlement
Union Council Chairman Fareed Singh shares that his community has been settled in Prem Nagar since 1901.
“At the time of Pakistan’s creation, we cast our votes in favour of Pakistan. After independence, only one household migrated to India while all other families and the community still reside in Prem Nagar,” Fareed Singh said. “Here, Muslims, Christians and people of other religions live with great love and respect, and everyone has complete freedom to practice their worship.”
Extending an invitation to people worldwide, Fareed Singh said: “If you want to see true peace and brotherhood, you must visit Prem Nagar once.”
A name filled with love
Prem Kumar one of young people who explained that there is a beautiful thought behind naming this settlement Prem Nagar. “Prem means love and affection, that’s why our elders named this village Prem Nagar so that love, fraternity and peace would always prevail here,” Kumar clarified.
The village’s social atmosphere is based on mutual respect and love. The people of Prem Nagar equally share in each other’s joys and sorrows. Whether it’s wedding celebrations or a house in mourning, festivals or worship services, people of all faiths in the village stand shoulder to shoulder with each other on every occasion.
A ray of hope
In today’s era of sectarianism, hatred and intolerance, Prem Nagar is a ray of hope. This village proves that if hearts hold respect, tolerance and humanity, religious differences never become a cause for hatred or conflict.
Prem Nagar is a proud example not only for District Hangu but for all of Pakistan, teaching us the lesson that peace, unity and brotherhood are the foundation of a strong and prosperous society.
