LAHORE
A man shot and critically injured his sister during a domestic dispute in Lahore’s Green Town area. The victim has been shifted to Jinnah Hospital in critical condition. Police have registered an attempted murder case against the suspect, but he has not yet been arrested.
An FIR lodged by the suspect’s father, Muhammad Siddique gave details.
“Some time ago, my younger daughter, 19-year-old Rabia Shahzadi, was divorced, and since then, my son, Muhammad Adeel, would often quarrel with her. On Saturday, while we were at home, an argument broke out between them. My son Adeel, in front of us, shot my younger daughter Rabia in the head. She is now fighting for her life at Jinnah Hospital.”
Muhammad Siddique, who works as a cattle labourer, said he earns just enough to sustain himself and his daughters. Speaking to Voicepk he revealed that this was not the first violent act committed by his son.
“My son Muhammad Adeel has made my life miserable. He had previously shot and killed one of my other daughters, but he was released on bail and later acquitted after a settlement was reached,” he said, refraining from sharing further details as he remained at the hospital with his injured daughter.
Government takes note
On the special instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Chairperson of the Punjab Women Protection Authority (WPWA), Hina Parvez Butt, immediately visited Jinnah Hospital and met with the victim’s family. She conveyed the Chief Minister’s message of sympathy and condolences and assured the family of complete legal, medical, and psychological assistance on behalf of the Punjab government.
Hina Butt stated that such acts of violence against women would not be tolerated under any circumstances. She directed the police to arrest the suspect immediately and ensure the case is concluded swiftly and justly.
The Chairperson further assured the family, saying, “I am personally monitoring this case. The Chief Minister’s clear message is that perpetrators of violence against women deserve no leniency. The PWPA stands firmly with the family until justice is served.”
She added that, in line with Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s vision, “A Safe Punjab for Women” is their mission, and efforts will continue at every level to achieve it.
