Shakila* and Rahila*’s lives changed abruptly in front of their eyes the day they went out of their house to the market. The sisters, of ages 17 and 18 years are residents of Abbas Nagar, an area in Chunian, Kasur.
The two sisters were on their way home when a pick-up van came from behind the City police station, from which four men at gunpoint, abducted them and too them with them. Later they were gang raped by six men in total.
“They came from behind us in a van,” says Rahila, visibly shaken and traumatized. “They grabbed us and dragged us into the van and took us with them to Changa Manga. “They kept us there the entire night and raped us repeatedly. Then they shifted us from Changamanga to a house in the Old Market area, of Roopasang Fort outside Chunian, where they repeatedly raped them for five more days.”
Later, when their condition of the two girls deteriorated, they left them near the PTCL exchange and fled.
“We received a call at home telling us to get our girls,” said he victims’ uncle. “When we brought them home they were so deeply shattered. We tried our best to calm them down and comfort them. We asked them why they didn’t make any noise while they were being abducted, but the girls told us they slapped us hard and were armed.”
Upon learning of the incident with his sisters, the girls’ brother filed a complaint against the accused at the City police station. The news of the incident had already reached social media, and the police registered a case against five named and one unknown person and arrested two accused one after the other while four people are still absconding whom the police seem to have failed to arrest. The family has requested the case be given to the Crimes Control Department (CCD) for investigation.
The victims’ brother of the victim sisters has expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of the police and demanded that this serious case be handed over to the CCD. “We want justice,” he said.
The incident has caused great fear rippling in the area. A neighbour told Voicepk that they had become worried and scared again after a long time.
“This is very wrong whatever happened and we as the entire community should get justice for what happened with those girls,” he said.
The JUI-F Ameer of Kasur also spoke out saying if the investigation did not reach a conclusion they would protest across the entire area.
The girls’ father expressing his grief appealed to CM Maryam Nawaz saying the perpetrators must be caught and be given their due punishment.
