In a tragic and chilling incident in Lahore’s Shad Bagh area, a man named Sheheryar allegedly killed his own sister and attempted to disguise the crime the crime as a suicide. Sheheryar was arrested. The incident, which unfolded on the morning of May 27, has raised alarm over growing domestic violence and highlights the importance of timely police intervention.
According to SP City Bilal Ahmed, the Shad Bagh Police responded swiftly after receiving a report of an apparent suicide. Upon reaching the scene, officers noticed visible signs of trauma on the victim’s face and neck, prompting suspicion. The police immediately took custody of the body and launched an investigation.
“Signs of torture were found on the victim’s face and neck,” reportedly said SP City Bilal Ahmed. “The police found Sheheryar’s behavior suspicious and began a thorough inquiry. The accused could not mislead the investigators for long and eventually confessed to killing his sister over suspicion that she had stolen money from a cupboard.”
Meanwhile, in a disturbing effort to conceal the crime, Sheheryar tampered with the crime scene.
“To mislead the authorities, Sheheryar cut his own nails and slit his sister’s wrist to make it appear as though she had taken her own life,” said the SP. The body was shifted to the hospital morgue, and further investigations are ongoing.
A First Information Report (FIR) under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code has been registered against Sheheryar at the Shad Bagh Police Station. The FIR provides further harrowing details of the incident, stating that the brother and sister had a history of frequent quarrels.
On the morning of May 27, at around 6:30 AM, neighbors heard loud voices coming from their house, indicating another altercation.
Ifrah’s uncle, who was reportedly standing outside at the time, rushed into the house upon hearing her screams. According to the FIR, upon entering, he found Ifrah’s body covered in blood and saw Sheheryar holding a knife. Upon seeing his uncle, Sheheryar fled the scene. The uncles transported Ifrah to the hospital in a private vehicle, but doctors declared her dead upon arrival.
While the FIR initially stated that the motive for the murder was unclear, further inquiry has shed light on possible causes.
Voicepk spoke to Muhammad Ali, who filed the complaint. He confirmed that the accused confessed before the magistrate that he had killed his sister out of anger, alleging that Ifrah had stolen some money from his cupboard.
He stated, “Both were living in a house and they usually have fought with each other just like every sibling does, but this time because of Sheheryar’s anger, he killed his sister. This has devastated our family, especially since both their parents had already passed away.”
“Sheheryar was mentally fine apparently. We still do not know if Ifrah has stolen the money or not.”
Muhammad Siddique, In-charge of Investigations at Shad Bagh Police Station, told Voicepk, “The boy staged the murder as a suicide at first, but when the police interrogated Sheheryar, he confessed that he had killed his sister because he suspected she had stolen money.”
He added, “The alleged theft has not yet been confirmed, but according to our initial findings, the murder was driven by anger. Both siblings were arguing, and when Ifrah, being the elder, slapped her brother, he lost control and attacked her.”
He further revealed that both siblings had suffered recent personal losses. “The father of both siblings had died earlier and their mother died some 26 days ago. They were facing financial issues,” he said. “The investigation is still ongoing.”
This tragic case not only underscores the devastating consequences of unresolved domestic conflicts but also highlights the psychological and financial pressures that can intensify within households following the loss of parental figures. As the investigation continues, the community waits for clarity and justice, while mourning the life lost to what appears to be a fatal moment of rage.
