LAHORE

Police have registered a murder case against a couple who were employers of a domestic worker after her tortured body was found in a house within a private housing society in Jhelum district’s Kala Gujran area.. A case was also filed against two other domestic employees.

The victim, identified as Safiya, 18, a resident of Okara, had been working at the residence of Rao Muhammad Asif for the past two years. Her body, bearing torture marks, was recovered from the house and shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ). Initial post-mortem findings confirmed signs of severe physical abuse.

‘False theft accusation led to abuse’

Safiya’s father, who filed the police complaint, claimed his daughter was brutally assaulted over false allegations of jewelry theft. A few days before her death, jewelry had gone missing from the house, and Safiya was wrongfully blamed, he said.

Based on the father’s complaint, police lodged a murder case against the homeowner, his wife, and two domestic staff members. Authorities have taken a woman (believed to be the woman employer) and two others into custody, while raids are underway to arrest the remaining suspect.

A forensic team examined the crime scene, collecting crucial evidence. Police stated that the exact cause of death will be confirmed after further investigation, though the post-mortem strongly indicates torture as a contributing factor. The victim’s family has since transported her body to Okara for burial.

The case has sparked public outrage, with demands for swift justice. Police assured a thorough probe into the circumstances leading to the young maid’s tragic death. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
