In a tragic case of rape and suicide, police in Muzaffargarh have sent DNA samples of two suspects for forensic matching. The suspects, identified as Rafiq Ahmed and Nadeem, are accused of raping their 17-year-old relative, who committed suicide after disclosing the abuse.
The victim, who was pregnant as a result of the alleged rape, took her own life on April 12. Her body was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her home. The police registered a case against the suspects and charged them with rape-related offenses.
The police have collected DNA samples from the suspects and the victim’s family for matching. The samples have been sent to a forensic lab in Lahore for analysis. The suspects are currently in police custody, and the police plan to seek an extension to complete their investigation.
This case highlights the urgent need for systemic reforms to protect vulnerable minors. According to data compiled by Sahil, an NGO combating child sexual abuse, most perpetrators are known to their victims, often being neighbors, acquaintances, or family members. The victim’s family has demanded strict action against the perpetrators.
The Muzaffargarh rape case is a disturbing reminder of the need for greater protection and support for vulnerable minors. The police investigation is ongoing, and it is essential that the suspects are brought to justice and that measures are taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
