In another acid attack targeting women in Pakistan, Azra Bibi became the latest victim in Rawalpindi on September 5.
A case has been registered at the Waris Khan police station in Rawalpindi on her behalf. Her ex-husband Shakeel and his two brothers, Adeel and Khalil, have been taken into custody.

Speaking to the Voicepk.net, the brother of the victim, Ajaz Ahmed, said that Bibi was returning home in a rickshaw from the market when her ex-husband and his two brothers, riding motorcycles, attached her with acid – “She was taken to the emergency ward of Holy Family Hospital in Rawalpindi. The acid severely burned her hands, feet, arms, and face”.
Ahmed added that even after the divorce (khula), her ex-husband continued to threaten her over the phone.
He demanded strict punishment for the perpetrators, and urged the Punjab government to take measures to prevent such acid attacks.
Rawalpindi CPO Syed Khalid Hamdani has taken notice of the incident and has ordered immediate legal action.
The victim has undergone a medical examination, and the detained suspects are being interrogated under the supervision of SSP Investigation Saba Sattar.
CPO Hamdani stated that the investigation will be conducted based on facts and will be resolved on merit. He added that such incidents of acid attacks on women are intolerable, and criminals involved in crimes against women and children will not escape the law.
SHO of Waris Khan police station, Tahzeeb Shah, informed Voicepk.net that further details on the motive and method behind the crime will be revealed after thorough investigation.
This week, multiple acid attack incidents on women have occurred in different areas of Islamabad and Rawalpindi. On Sept 4, an acid attack on a woman took place within the jurisdiction of the Shalimar police station in Islamabad.
