LAHORE:
In another horrific incident of honour killing, a man shot dead his sister in Faisalabad after she left home to live with a boy of her locality.
The 14-year-old victim had left home with the boy a few days ago but was brought back to her house in the Islampura locality of Dijikot in Faisalabad, following negotiations between the families.
On September 7, Adil Hussain alias Bhola barged into their house and fired shots at her sister Maham Noor for allegedly dishonouring her family, the victim’s step mother-in-law Uzma Rafique stated in the first investigation report registered with the Dijkot police station.
The parents of Adil Husain and Maham Noor lived separately after their separation several years ago. Adil used to live with her mother in Painsara and Maham stayed with her father in Islampura. Their father was present in the house when Adil barged into the house and opened fire on her sister as she sat on a charpoy laid out in the verandah.
Maham succumbed to her injuries on the way to the nearby rural health centre.
Police handed over the body to the family after autopsy. The police charged the suspect with sections 302 (murder) and 311 (relating to honour killing) in the case.
The police is conducting raids to arrest the suspect who fled the crime scene.
Despite legislation to stem honour killings in the country, such incidents keep surfacing in the country. In August 2024, a man and his son allegedly shot dead his 20-year-old daughter in Lodhran district over honour. The accused killed Shaheena Bibi after she eloped with a man, according to local police.
Like in the Faisalabad case, Shaheena was killed inside her home after she was brought back from the house of the man she had eloped with. The brother was arrested but the father is still at large.
